James Jay Lee | Discovery Channel Hostage (Video, Pictures, Photos)

A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing said authorities had identified James J. Lee (James Jay Lee) as the likely suspect. Police had not released the gunman's identity.

A man who railed against the Discovery Channel's environmental programming for years burst into the company's headquarters with at least one explosive device strapped to his body Wednesday and took three people hostage at gunpoint before police shot him to death, officials said.

The hostages — two Discovery Communications employees and a security guard — were unhurt after the four-hour standoff. Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger said tactical officers moved in after officers monitoring the gunman on building security cameras saw him pull out a handgun and point it at a hostage.

An explosive device on the gunman's body detonated when police shot him, Manger said. Police were trying to determine whether two boxes and two backpacks the gunman had also contained explosives.

Apple TV | New iPod Touch 4th Generation | New iPod Nano 2010 | New iPod Shuffle

The new Apple TV for $99
.

The new Apple TV will be streaming 720p video only (no big surprise there), and that existing Apple TVs won't be getting an upgrade to the new cloud-based software (again, not a shocker).

The new operating system for the iPhone and iPod Touch will also have a new photo feature called High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photos.

It has HDMI, Ethernet, optical audio, and USB plugs around back, and of course 802.11n for the cable-averse.

A demo of a new game - currently called "project sword" - was shown as part of the Game Center unveiling. The role-playing game, which features sword battles, is being developed by Epic Games and will be available on the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad.

The new line of iPods will feature a built in FM tuner that can also display photos. The iPod will also now be completely touch screen, and will not have any buttons on the device itself. It will cost a total of $149 for the 8 GB version of the iPod and $179 for the 16 GB version.

The AirTunes software is being renamed AirPlay, and will allow users to switch video streaming from an iPad or iPhone to an Apple TV device.

The new Shuffles will cost $49 and come with 2 gigabytes of memory and a 15-hour battery life.

New iPod Shuffle The new Shuffle can speak the names of playlists and songs, and unlike the most recent version, it brings back the square shape and buttons of Apple's second-generation Shuffle. The new Shuffles will cost $49 and come with 2 gigabytes of memory and a 15-hour battery life.

New iPod nano

New iPod Touch 4G Cases of Hard Candy Confirm a Camera Feature

Hard Candy’s Street Skin Rubber iPod Touch 4G Case are set to ship prior to Apple’s expected launch date in September, and were created by specs given to them more than 30 days ago from Apple. So I guess that would explain the nice open area on the case that would support a camera being built-in to the newest iPod Touch.

The latest line of Hard Candy cases will retail for $29.95, feature a ruggedized, rubber body and will begin shipping in mid-September. The Bubble Slider line will also be available for the iPod Touch 4G as well.

Apple Announcement Wednesday: Is 'iPod economy' still going strong?

In its major product-promotion event Wednesday, Apple is trying to answer lots of questions that its fans are eager to know.

For instance: What new features will the latest iteration of the iPod emphasize? And, can the company turn Apple TV into a "killer app" for downloading TV programs, like iTunes has been in the music business?

Apple is also trying to answer the broader question of just how much momentum the "iPod economy" has.

Can Apple keep boosting revenue for its diminutive music players, while also grabbing market share for its iPhone in the smartphone arena and boosting the iPad as a new market in between a touchscreen phone and a laptop?
