Possible New York Tornado Rocks Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island

A flash storm that followed tornado warnings powered through New York City Thursday evening, with winds up to 70 miles per hour knocking down trees, damaging buildings, destroying cars and causing the death of at least one person.

The severe weather wreaked havoc on the city’s transportation system in the middle of the evening commute. All Long Island Rail Road service was suspended out of Manhattan due to downed trees on the tracks near Sunnyside, Queens. LIRR service was also disrupted between Brooklyn and Queens, and the entire 7 subway line was inoperative for several hours.

Did Student Loans Company cut 150 jobs last January?

With regards to the planned axing of 150 jobs by Student Loans Company, dated January 27, 2010 due to late applications and technical problems, can someone please give an update about this?

Before the planned job cut, the Student Loans Company employs 1,894 people across the UK, including 1,212 in Glasgow and 127 in Hillington.

Andrew Flintoff retires from cricket

Andrew Flintoff has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket "with disappointment and sadness".

The injury-plagued all-rounder, 32, revealed the decision came after consultation with medical advisors.

He said: "Having been told my body would no longer stand up to the rigours of cricket, I had no alternative."

Interest Rates for Canada Student Loans

The interest rate is multiplied by the outstanding principal on your student loan to calculate your interest payments.

The conditions of repayment for your Canada Student Loan are set at the time you enter repayment.

You can select a fixed interest rate or floating (variable) interest rate when it comes time to begin repaying your student loan.

As of October 2009, the interest rate was 4.75% for the floating rate and 7.25% for the fixed rate.

For Canada Student Loans issued on, or after August 1, 1995:

* the fixed interest rate is prime + 5% and;
* the floating rate is prime + 2.5%.

For Canada Student Loans issued prior to August 1, 1995: the annual interest rate is 3.265%.
