'Egypt is Free' chants Tahrir after President Hosni Mubarak quits

Cries of "Egypt is free" rang out and fireworks lit up the sky as hundreds of thousands danced, wept and prayed in joyful pandemonium Friday after 18 days of peaceful pro-democracy protests forced President Hosni Mubarak to surrender power to the military, ending three decades of authoritarian rule.

Ecstatic protesters in Cairo's Tahrir, or Liberation, Square hoisted soldiers onto their shoulders and families posed for pictures in front of tanks in streets flooded with people streaming out to celebrate. Strangers hugged each other, some fell to kiss the ground, and others stood stunned in disbelief.

Chants of "Hold your heads high, you're Egyptian" roared with each burst of fireworks overhead.

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Shooting, Victim Shot In Hand, Campus On Alert

One person pulled out a gun and shot another in the hand during an argument in a Middle Tennessee State University classroom building, then tried to hide by blending in among other students before being caught by police, authorities said Monday.

Murfreesboro Police Maj. Clyde Adkison said the suspected shooter was apprehended in the crowd without incident.

Egypt military dismantles Mubarak regime

Egypt's new military regime dismantled ousted strongman Hosni Mubarak's former regime on Sunday, dissolving parliament, suspending the constitution and promising a referendum on political reform.

While the civilian cabinet met for the first time since Mubarak's downfall, the generals made it clear where authority now lies, issuing a proclamation setting a six-month timetable to prepare democratic elections.

The latest moves spelled the end of the political system that underpinned Mubarak's 30-year rule which ended on Friday when he was driven from power after an 18-day pro-democracy uprising.
