Rich Cronin: LFO prime vocalist

The prime vocalist as well as founder of the late-1990s boy band LFO, Rich Cronin, already passed away due to leukemia, as reported by TMZ & E! News.

His age was only 35. LFO, or the Lyte Funky Ones, were best known for the 1999 beach-y hit “Summer Girls,” which included the renown of-the-moment lyric penned by Cronin, “I like girls that wear Abercrombie & Fitch.”

Tornado Touches Down Near Downtown Dallas

A tornado touched down near Downtown Dallas Wednesday evening. The funnel could be clearly seen as it touched the ground and threw debris into the air at about 6:15 Wednesday evening.

The tornado heavily damaged a building in the 600 block of Mockingbird Lane, destroying part of one wall and the roof. At least one person was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

A tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic, off of Cape Verde, Western Africa. This tropical storm, named Igor, is forecast to become a hurricane before the start of the weekend, heading west toward the Lesser Antilles next week.

NCSECU: NC State Employees Credit Union Helps Account Holders

The NCSECU (State Employees’ Credit Union) is announcing that they now offer their clients “Another Chance”. This is a bonus that helps protect SECU customers against bounced checks on their end, as well as overdraft fees.

What NCSECU does, is they provide you with a separate account that stores some extra money in it. When you make a withdrawal, or write a check for more money than you have in your State Employees’ Credit Union account, the second account is used to help make up the difference. If there is enough in that account to cover the overage amount, than customers will not be charged an overdraft fee.

Mark Hurd sued by HP over new job at rival Oracle

Hewlett-Packard Co. is suing former CEO Mark Hurd to stop him from taking a job at Oracle Corp.

The complaint filed in California comes a day after Oracle hired Hurd as co-president to help lead the database software maker as it tries to muscle in on more of HP's turf.

The lawsuit shows the rancor between the two companies now competing in the market for computer servers.

Hurd was ousted last month.

Passive smoking affects 88 million Americans - CDC report

Tobacco or cigarette smoking affects millions of Americans. But the Centers for Disease control and Prevention on Sept 7 issued a report in its weekly journal Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report or MMWR saying that secondhand smoking or passive smoking was on the decline.

The CDC says that the number of people who were affected by passive smoking defined as having serum nicotine levels equal to or greater than 0.05 ng/mL during 1999 to 2000 was 40.1 percent compared to 52.5 percent during 2007 to 2008.

Secondhand cigarette smoke also known as environmental tobacco smoke consists of at least 250 toxic chemicals including more than 50 carcinogens or cancer-causing agents.

Earlier the CDC reported that passive smoking affects an estimated 126 million nonsmokers in homes, vehicles, workplaces and public areas in the United States.

Passive cigarette smoking has been linked to a whole spectrum of serious diseases including tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, pancreatic cancer, diabetes mellitus, respiratory infections, kidney disease, acute stroke, acute heart attack or myocardial infarction, and atherosclerosis.
